Trampoline freestyle
Trampoline freestyle is flips and twists on the bounce — from a first backflip to multi-twisting doubles. It draws on competitive trampolining and the freestyle scene of backyard and gym trampolines, and it's one of the safest places to learn aerial skills, because the trampoline gives you height, air time and soft landings while you figure a trick out.
Here's a plain-English guide to the core skills and how to build them safely. Every skill below lives in the Nivla Parkour trick library, where you can see exactly what it is and track your progress from "not started" to "yes, I can".
The core trampoline skills
Bounce control and drops
Everything starts with a controlled bounce and a clean stop. The first shapes are the seat drop, front drop and back drop — they teach you to stay square and control rotation before you leave your feet.
The basic shapes
Flips come in three shapes: tuck, pike and straight (layout). Learn them in the backflip and frontflip first — they're the foundation for everything with a twist.
Twisting skills
Add rotation and you get the classics: the barani (a front flip with a half twist, landing facing forward), the rudy (a front flip with one and a half twists), the full (a backflip with a full twist) and the double full. Off-axis, the cork brings tricking's corkscrew onto the trampoline.
How to start on the trampoline
- Learn to bounce and stop. Control comes before tricks — be able to kill your bounce on command.
- Drops before flips. Seat, front and back drops teach rotation control safely.
- Backflip and frontflip in a tuck. The two flips that unlock the rest, ideally with a coach or spotter.
- Add half twists. Barani and back half build toward fulls and beyond.
- Use a proper trampoline and a spotter. A gym trampoline with an overhead rig or an experienced spotter is by far the safest way to progress.
The trampoline rewards patience: nail each shape before adding a twist, and each twist before doubling it. That step-by-step path is exactly how the Nivla Parkour app is structured — clear checkpoints for every skill so you always know what's next.
